Even though we all know that working out and getting fit and healthy is a crucial thing to do, the fact is that not all of us enjoy exercise – it can feel like a chore and when there are plenty of other things to do (both work-related and more relaxing and fun), it’s the one thing on the to-do list that generally gets ignored.
Yet it is so good for us to exercise on a regular basis that it’s well worth looking into how to become more motivated, and one option is simply to make it all a lot more fun. Everything can be fun when you put your mind to it, and going to the gym is no exception – here are some things you can try.
Choose The Right Gym
If you want to make going to the gym more fun, picking the right gym to begin with is an excellent way to get started. You’ll want to find a gym that’s got a good atmosphere, that fits your budget so you’re not stressing about how much it costs, and that has all the right equipment. Somewhere like Fitness 19 is a great example, and once you’ve found the gym you like, going there isn’t going to be such a challenge.
Don’t worry that you have to try out lots of gyms before you can pick the one that you like the best and that it’s going to be expensive – most of the time you can get a free trial and then you can compare each gym and work out which one you’ll be happy spending time in.
Have A Workout Buddy
Working out alone might be productive, but it’s not a lot of fun, and that’s why it’s a good idea to have a workout buddy to go to the gym with you. When you’ve got someone to work out with, you’ll be a lot more motivated – you might even turn your exercise routine into a competition (as long as you’re safe at the same time and don’t push yourself too hard, of course)! Plus, you’ll have someone to talk to, discuss techniques with, and generally enjoy yourself with.
On top of this, if your friend expects you to go to the gym with them, and they arrange to meet you at a certain time and in a certain place, you’re probably going to go – you’ll be held accountable. If you’re the only one going to the gym and you find an excuse not to leave the house, who’s going to text you to find out where you are, and who’s going to be disappointed when you don’t show up?
Set Goals
No matter whether you go to the gym by yourself or with a workout buddy, setting goals and then rewarding yourself when you reach those goals is a good idea – it gives you something to work towards, makes you want to keep trying to reach those goals (especially if you remember to update them once you reach them), and helps you on your fitness journey at the same time.
When you just go to the gym and do the same thing over and over, it’s not always fun, and it’s definitely not easy to tell if you’re making any progress. When you’ve got goals to work towards, you’ll easily see the progress you’re making and you can change your workout routine to get you the best results, so it’s great all round.
